Nightclub licence suspended after man killed
A nightclub in Walsall has been told it must remain closed for 28 days after a man was killed outside the premises.
A nightclub in Walsall, DeCode (also known as Discotheque.life), has been ordered to close for 28 days after the death of 51-year-old Kevin Taylor outside the premises on 7 December.
West Midlands Police called for an urgent review of the club’s licence, leading to an immediate ban on licensable activities. A man has been charged with manslaughter. The council’s sub-committee highlighted immediate concerns from limited footage available, prompting the closure pending a full review.
Licensing legal advisor Gary Grant stated the premises are not permitted to open during this period, but the licence holder, Isaac Cobbinah-Koompong, has the right to challenge the suspension. Police continue to investigate and seek witnesses.
