Beefeater to close all 106 UK sites as Whitbread confirms exit from pub‑restaurant sector

Beefeater will close all 106 of its UK sites in September as part of a major restructuring programme by owner Whitbread, marking the company’s full withdrawal from the pub‑restaurant market. The chain has confirmed that its final day of trading will be 10 September 2026, with customers notified directly through a letter sent to members of its rewards scheme.

The closures form part of Whitbread’s plan to reduce costs by £250 million, which includes shutting its remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants. Around 3,800 jobs are expected to be affected across the group.

In the letter seen by the Southend Echo, customers were told: “This means that on Thursday 10 September 2026 your local Beefeater and all other UK Beefeaters will close.”

t is reported that Whitbread chief executive Dominic Paul said earlier this year that “significant cost increases” had driven the decision to overhaul the business. The company has cited rising operating costs and changing market conditions as key factors behind the restructuring.

A Whitbread spokesperson said the business expects to retain “a significant proportion” of affected staff and will seek to redeploy “as many of our impacted colleagues as possible,” according to reporting by The Sun.

Closure dates for Whitbread’s other restaurant brands, including Brewers Fayre and Bar + Block, have not yet been announced.
