About this opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for you to join the Public Protection Team within Westmorland and Furness Council, as a Regulation and Compliance Officer in our Licensing Team.
In this role you will work with licensed premises, taxis, boats, street trading, gambling, and temporary event notifications to protect public safety through licensing. You will enforce legislation and local requirements of licences and will be expected to attend some sub-committee meetings and engage with Councillors. You will also be expected to undertake other duties from time to time in relation to events within the area.
You’ll be joining a dedicated team who handle a high volume of work across a diverse area, including the rural communities of Lakeland and Eden with high annual tourist numbers, and the industrial powerhouse of Barrow in Furness. This includes licensing activity in over 2000 premises for alcohol and entertainment, 700 Hackney Carriage and Private Hire drivers, 600 vehicles and operators, large scale music events, and gatherings such as Appleby Horse Fair.
Who we are looking for…
You must have a ‘role up your sleeves’ attitude, attention to detail, accuracy and excellent customer focus to deliver high standards of service and seek to resolve cases as quickly and efficiently as possible.
In addition you will have:
- Demonstrable experience in working in a Regulatory role.
- Proven ability to understand and comply with legislation and regulations.
- Proven ability to analyse, problem-solve and respond to requests and understanding when to escalate a case
- Proven ability to be accurate, detailed and professional in approach to work
- Proven ability to deliver high standards and good customer service
- Strong ICT skills and a proven ability to learn new systems quickly
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
- A full UK driving licence and regular access to a vehicle.
Qualifications:
- Technical, vocational or professional qualification at degree level or equivalent experience (NVQ Level 4)
- Professional Licensing Practitioners Qualification (Institute of Licensing), would be an advantage.
