Welsh Government updates driver training guidance ahead of post‑election decisions
The Welsh Government has updated Part 2, section 1(h) of its Taxi and Private Hire Vehicles Licensing Guidance, clarifying expectations for local authorities on the delivery of driver training. The revised section strengthens the emphasis on safeguarding, equality and accessibility, and forms part of the wider guidance published at: https://www.gov.wales/taxi-and-private-hire-vehicles-licensing-guidance-html.
The update provides additional detail on the standards licensing authorities should apply when assessing driver training programmes, including the need for consistent, high‑quality content that supports passenger safety and public confidence.
A Welsh Government spokesperson confirmed that any further reforms to the taxi and private hire vehicle sector will fall to the next administration following the 7th of May 2026 Senedd election. Decisions on wider legislative or policy changes are therefore expected to be considered once the Government is formed.
