Retailers urged to prepare for upcoming tobacco and vape law changes, says LGA
With 100 days remaining before new tobacco and vape regulations come into force, the Local Government Association (LGA) is urging retailers to ensure they are prepared for the changes.
The LGA said the measures will introduce tougher restrictions on the sale and supply of tobacco and vaping products, with councils playing a key role in supporting compliance and enforcement. Retailers are being encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new requirements and take any necessary steps ahead of implementation.
According to the LGA, early preparation will help businesses avoid potential penalties and ensure a smooth transition when the legislation takes effect. The association also highlighted the importance of the changes in supporting public health objectives and reducing access to harmful products, particularly among children and young people.
Councils and trading standards teams will continue to work with local businesses to raise awareness of the new rules and provide guidance on compliance, the LGA said.
