Changes to SIA licensing training
A summary of the changes to SIA licence training requirements as of 1 April 2025:
New requirements:
Refresher Qualification: Mandatory before renewing a door supervisor or security guard licence.
Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification (EFAW): You must complete this, or an equivalent, before taking refresher training. Proof is required during course registration.
Previous updates:
2021: Updated qualifications introduced for all sectors except close protection and vehicle immobilisation. Emergency First Aid at Work became a prerequisite for door supervisor or security guard licence training.
2022: A new close protection qualification was implemented, requiring top-up training or the new qualification for licence applications and renewals.

Switching licences:
Door Supervisor Licence Holders:
Option 1: Complete refresher training and renew the licence.
Option 2: Take security guard refresher training to switch licences.
Close Protection Licence Holders:
Option 1: Complete top-up training to renew the licence.
Option 2: Take door supervisor refresher training to switch licences.
First Aid Training:
Accepted qualifications include:
Door Supervisors/Security Guards:
First Aid at Work (FAW)
First Person on Scene (FPOS)
First Response Emergency Care (FREC)
Close Protection Operatives:
Level 3 FAW
Level 3 FPOS
Level 3 FREC
