SIA sets out next steps as Martyn’s Law moves closer to commencement

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has outlined the growing momentum behind preparations for Martyn’s Law, stressing that its successful rollout will rely on collective effort from organisations, communities and emergency services across the UK.

In an update published on 8 July 2026, Laura Gibb, the SIA’s Executive Director for Martyn’s Law, said the regulator is progressing pilot inspections and developing a new digital platform that venues and event organisers will use to submit notifications and engage with the regime. She emphasised that the system must be user‑focused, secure and shaped directly by those who will depend on it.

The SIA is inviting organisations to test the platform, provide feedback on guidance materials and host further pilot inspections. These activities will help refine the regulatory model and ensure it works for a wide range of premises, including places of worship, volunteer‑run community centres, festivals and one‑off events.

With many organisations already preparing for compliance, the SIA reiterated that two questions matter most: whether a premises or event is in scope, and what steps are needed to get ready. The Home Office’s Section 27 guidance remains the definitive source on scope and duties, while ProtectUK continues to offer free training, advice and practical tools to support improvements in protective security.

Gibb also highlighted strong engagement from policing, fire and rescue, ambulance services and other public safety organisations during recent discussions at the Blue Light Show in London. Emergency services will play a central role in public engagement and in helping the SIA build an accurate picture of activity once the regime goes live.
