Halton Borough Council has an opening for a Taxi Enforcement Officer to join their Licensing Department.

As a Taxi Enforcement Officer, your primary role will be to ensure that licensed drivers, vehicles, and operators are compliant with the law and the council’s policies and conditions in order to promote public safety.

You will carry out patrols during office hours. However, flexibility will be required depending on the needs of the service.

You will report to the Licensing Manager and work with other team members and partner agencies.

Main responsibilities

  • Approach licensed vehicles with a view to recording vehicle and driver details;
  • Identify and record any potential breaches of licensing law and council policy/conditions;
  • Issue suspension notices to drivers who are in breach of their licence conditions and record the information on the council’s computer system;
  • Investigate complaints about licensed drivers and take any necessary enforcement action;
  • Prepare and present reports to the Council’s Taxi Licensing Sub-Committee/Court when required.

 

Ideal candidate

  • Experience in an enforcement role;
  • Experience in taxi licensing (although for the right candidate training will be given);
  • An understanding of PACE and how it is applies in Local Government;
  • Needs to be flexible, able to work alone and, on occasions, during unsociable hours;
  • Must be a team player;
  • Must have a valid driving licence and own transport;
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
