Martyn’s Law notification requirement guidance published

The Home Office has published new guidance explaining how organisations must notify the Security Industry Authority (SIA) under section 9 of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly known as Martyn’s Law.

Released on 14 July 2026, the guidance sets out what information must be provided, when notifications must be made, and the process for submitting details to the SIA. It is intended to support the wider statutory guidance issued under section 27 of the Act and forms part of the government’s ongoing preparations ahead of implementation.

Martyn’s Law will introduce new duties for publicly accessible premises and events to improve preparedness and strengthen protection against terrorist attacks. The notification requirement applies to premises and events that fall within scope of the legislation, ensuring the SIA has accurate and timely information to support its regulatory role.

The Home Office describes the document as non‑statutory supplementary guidance, designed to help responsible persons understand their obligations and prepare for compliance. It includes practical detail on:

  • when a notification must be submitted

  • the specific information organisations are required to provide

  • how the SIA will use notification data as part of its regulatory functions

The publication sits alongside the government’s wider Martyn’s Law resources, including statutory guidance and sector‑specific materials.
