Pubs, bars and restaurants have previously had to shut at midnight, but now the Glasgow Licensing Board has approved 54 applications to close at 01:00.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The new closing hour can be introduced with immediate effect for those premises.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is hoped the move will boost the city&#8217;s late-night economy, and comes after clubs were allowed to open later.  It brings Glasgow in line with Edinburgh which already allows bars to close at 01:00.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This pilot scheme comes shortly after a trial of 04:00 licences for nightclubs in the city centre was made permanent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The council says the new closing hour is aimed at encouraging crowds to leave licensed premises in phases, instead of large numbers of people leaving at the same time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This tends to create policing issues and puts pressure on the availability of taxis, public transport and late-night food takeaways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Bailie Thomas Kerr, who chairs the Glasgow Licensing Board, said there had been &#8220;considerable support&#8221; for testing a later closing time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><em>\u201cGlasgow city centre is a great place for a night out and we want to ensure people who come to enjoy the centre have the best possible experience,&#8221; he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><em>&#8220;We think the 01:00 pilot can improve public safety in the city centre and that\u2019s something we will be looking at very closely with our partners following the conclusion of the 12-month trial period.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper ep2nwvo0\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-7uxr49-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Police Scotland, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Licensing Standards will all be involved in the pilot review alongside members of Glasgow Licensing Board.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It will look for evidence that connects the pilot with any changes to crime data or hospital admission figures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A total of 54 premises had applied for the extended opening time and they were all approved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The licensing board looked for evidence of membership in industry schemes, CCTV throughout a premises, staff training and social responsibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This includes adequate transport home for staff and a focus on customer safety.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pubs, bars and restaurants have previously had to shut at midnight, but now the Glasgow Licensing Board has approved 54 applications to close at 01:00.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-9085","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"modified_by":null,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9085","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=9085"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9085\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=9085"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=9085"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=9085"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
