{"id":9078,"date":"2024-05-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/2024\/05\/18\/short-term-lets-licensing-in-scotland\/"},"modified":"2024-05-18T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-05-18T00:00:00","slug":"short-term-lets-licensing-in-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/instituteoflicensing.org\/news_archive\/short-term-lets-licensing-in-scotland\/","title":{"rendered":"Short-term lets licensing in Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Regulations have been laid in Parliament that provide technical updates to the short-term let licensing scheme. <\/p>\n<p>Licensing was introduced in 2022 to provide assurance to guests on safety and quality, such as gas and electrical safety compliance and the suitability of hosts.<\/p>\n<p>If approved, the new regulations would enable:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Licences to be transferred to a new host, such as when accommodation is sold<\/li>\n<li>Prospective hosts building a new short-term let to apply for a provisional licence before construction is complete<\/li>\n<li>Hosts to apply for a maximum of three licence exemptions totalling six weeks in a calendar year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Minister for Housing Paul McLennan said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u201cShort-term let accommodation offers safe and high-quality places to stay throughout Scotland and plays an important role in supporting our tourism sector.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u201cSince we introduced the licensing scheme I have continually engaged with operators and the wider tourism industry to understand how it is working.
