A private hire driver who attempted to assault a man with a \u201cbaseball bat\u201d has been granted a new licence to work in the city.<\/p>\n
Glasgow Live reported that Joseph Kinloch had a bid to renew his licence rejected last year – but has now been handed a new one despite an objection by Police Scotland.<\/p>\n
Mr Kinloch told councillors he had attempted to attack his \u201csister\u2019s tormentor\u201d with a \u201cbaton\u201d during an incident in September 2019.<\/p>\n
He said he had recently received bad news about his mother\u2019s health, which gives \u201can idea of the frame of mind I was in\u201d.<\/p>\n
Licensing chiefs voted four to two in favour of granting the applicant a restricted one-year licence. They also issued a \u201csevere warning\u201d.<\/p>\n
Police Scotland had argued he was \u201cnot a fit and proper person\u201d due to the incident where he \u201cdid assault a named witness and did repeatedly attempt to strike him with a baseball bat to the body\u201d.<\/p>\n
Cllr Alex Wilson, SNP, who chairs the licensing committee, said: \u201cUltimately you were convicted, there\u2019s no doubt about that. You are saying you took the wrong advice from your solicitor and plead guilty.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I felt I wasn\u2019t guilty of something, there is absolutely no way I would say I was guilty of anything. Regardless of what any lawyer tells me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Kinloch replied: \u201cIn many ways I was still guilty as I did attempt to.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cllr Wilson said the incident had been \u201cpremeditated\u201d. \u201cYou didn\u2019t just happen to have that bat sitting beside you, you went into your boot, you removed the item, you still attempted to assault.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
