John’s nomination cited his various roles in licensing over a career which started as early as 1973 when he started as a management trainee for the Grand Metropolitan, marking the start of 26 years working in the licensed trade, before joining Nottinghamshire Police as a civil support licensing officer and finally moving to Broxtowe Borough Council where he served for 20 years as Licensing Manager before retiring in September 2023. Throughout his local authority career, John has been involved in countless initiatives and licensing groups, with roles including he LGA’s Policy Forum, Best Bar None, Purple Flag, BII and local licensing officer groups. The Jeremy Allen Award was established in 2011 as an ongoing tribute to Jeremy Allen and is awarded jointly by the Institute of Licensing and Poppleston Allen Solicitors. The annual award seeks to recognise those individuals who consistently go the extra mile in their passion and dedication to their work in licensing and related fields.
Crucially, this award is by 3rd party nomination, which in itself is a tribute to everyone nominated in that they have been put forward by colleagues in recognition and out of respect of their professionalism and achievements.
The nomination period for the 2024 Jeremy Allen Awards will run from June 2023 until early September 2024. Subscribe to our regular updates to ensure you get our notification in June, and receive our weekly licensing news updates in the meantime.
