CIEH Noise Survey report for 2020/21 Published Date: 13/03/2022

The report found that the number of noise complaints increased by 54% between 2019/20 and 2020/21 in 89 local authorities, which participated in both years. Key findings: A total of 356,367 noise complaints were recorded by 144 local authorities, on average 149 complaints for every 10,000 people.

Other findings:

 

  • The average number of noise complaints per officer increased in all but two regions between 2019/20 and 2020/21: East Midlands and East of England. The average number of complaints received per FTE officer in England increased from 299 to 633 complaints.
  • A total of 356,367 noise complaints were recorded by 144 local authorities
  • 11,211 formal actions were taken by responding local authorities
  • The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2012 was the most commonly used legislation to take formal action by local authorities
