In It Together Festival in Margam to see massive changes after huge decision
The In It Together Festival in Margam, Neath Port Talbot, is set to undergo significant changes following a local council’s approval of a licence application. Despite opposition from some neighbouring residents, the festival’s capacity will increase from just under 30,000 people to 35,000 in 2025, with potential further incremental increases to nearly 50,000 by 2028.
The festival, held at Old Park Farm, has been described as Wales’ biggest family festival, attracting thousands of attendees over the past three years with headlining acts such as Two Door Cinema Club, Rag’n’Bone Man, and Dizzee Rascal. The licence application also requested an “exceptional extension” of 10 minutes to accommodate any delays to performances on the main stage, following a previous incident where a headline act was cut off due to licence conditions.
During the council meeting on January 20, representatives from Climax Promotions & Events Limited, the festival organisers, highlighted the festival’s commercial and licensing success, arguing that the capacity increase was proportionate given the sell-out shows in previous years. However, six representations from residents raised concerns about transparency in the planning process, anti-social behaviour, and increased traffic. One objection letter described traffic chaos, illegal parking, property damage, and threats from taxi drivers, as well as festival-goers using front gardens as urinals.
Despite these concerns, residents expressed overall support for the festival and a willingness to work with organisers to address issues. Organisers denied claims of a lack of transparency and indicated openness to further dialogue, with plans already in place for increased security, additional exit routes, and a traffic management plan. Following the meeting, the licence was approved by the committee.
