Gambling Business Group responds to local authorities demands greater gambling licensing powers
The Gambling Business Group (GBG) has issued a response to a previous letter by nearly 40 local authorities demanding greater gambling licensing powers.
In an extensive response, and in summary, the GBG pointed out “that it is important to clarify that there is no evidence that gambling harm is growing” and “analysis estimated that the annual excess direct financial cost to government associated with harmful gambling is equivalent to £412.9 million, £119.5m of which related to health costs.“
The letter from the GBG continued by responding to the other points raised in the letter sent by Councillor Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, including responding to:
- Reform the Aim to Permit Policy
- Categorisation of Premises
- Statutory Levy for Gambling Harm Prevention
- Overhaul of Gambling Advertising
- Stop Progress on Proposals to Liberalise Adult Gaming Centres
