Licensing Officer – South Staffordshire Council Closing Date: 12/01/2022

Contract Type: up to 18 Months Fixed Term – Full Time

Salary:   £28,672 – 31,346 (Grade I)

Payment of Essential Car User Allowance of up to £1k

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced licensing officer to join the small but busy licensing team at South Staffordshire Council.

About the role:

To licensing officer will work within our small licensing team of Licensing Officers. The post holder will undertake a range of activities including dealing with applications under a wide range of licensing regimes including Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005, Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 and  Street Trading.

This work will encompass provision of detailed guidance to businesses and residents, administering applications, providing support and assistance to colleagues and providing investigatory and enforcement actions.

Candidates will be expected to assist in the development and review policy, to undertake inspections and participate in projects and specific workstreams with colleague support.

The Licensing Officer may occasionally have to deal with difficult and/or confrontational situations.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Member of the Institute of Licensing
  • Licensing Qualification or equivalent

 Skills Required

  • To work to legislative, process and policy timescales, at times working under pressure
  • To be able to interpret complex legislation and provide clear advice, direction and guidance to customers and colleagues
  • To be willing and able to work out of hours on some evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (work, excel etc.), Microsoft Teams
  • Experience in using the Idox Uniform Licensing module to administer licence applications is desirable.
