Mid Sussex is an ambitious authority with one of the most significant programmes of growth in the south east. To help us to deliver high quality Environmental Health services, we are looking for a pro-active and enthusiastic Licensing Officer to work in our Licensing, Food and Safety Team.

You will take the lead on licensing taxi and private hire vehicles, but you will also be involved in enforcing a range of licensing legislation in areas such as alcohol, animal welfare, gambling, scrap metal and street trading. You will be processing and determining licence applications, offering advice to applicants, licensees and other stakeholders, investigating complaints received in relation to licensed and unlicensed activity and carrying out appropriate enforcement action to ensure compliance. The role also includes working in partnership with external agencies.

You will need to be able to effectively communicate with the general public, applicants, partnership agencies and Members of the Council in a tactful and confident manner, be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, and have a willingness to work out of normal hours to attend committee hearings, undertake site inspections, enforcement, joint operations and complaint investigations.

In addition to a competitive salary you’ll also receive great staff benefits, including generous holiday, pension and car allowance. You will also enjoy discounted access to a number of health clubs in the district and free on-site parking.

If this opportunity sounds like the role for you we’d love to hear from you. If you would like a confidential discussion about the role, please contact Jon Bryant on 01444 477076.
