The one day course in London is suitable for all persons involved in Safety Advisory Groups, including core members and representatives.
The trainer will be John Newcombe.
The Institute of Licensing acredits this course for 5 hours CPD. Course Ref: SAG40397
The training fee includes comprehensive printed training notes.
Course Objectives
To increase the delegates knowledge on Safety Advisory Groups including their scope, roles of members and formulation of terms of reference. The course will also enable the delegate to plan for emergencies and to readily assess risks associated with outdoor events and events at sports grounds.

Event Trainer

John Newcombe
John has worked in licensing and events for over 20 years and is currently tasked with ensuring that all of the events that are held in the London Borough of Newham are managed safely and in accordance with their respective licences; this includes the Olympic Park & Stadium, West Ham United FC and the Excel Exhibition Centre.

John started worked as an event organiser where he eventually progressed to running his own event management company during the 1990’s before entering the public sector as part of the Licensing Team with Canterbury City Council back in 2004 just before the new Act came into force.

John has over 10 years’ experience of establishing, chairing and advising on Safety Advisory Groups and is currently chair of the Newham Events Safety Advisory Group and core member of the Olympic Stadium Safety Advisory Group and Olympic Park; Safety Advisory Group; Noise Advisory group and Transport Advisory Groups. He is lead author of the Terms of Reference for the groups and is qualified in Licensing, Law, Health & Safety, Business and Event Management. He has also written a large number of policies for Local Authorities in the fields of Licensing, Event Safety, Gambling, Street Trading, Taxi Licensing and Safety Advisory Groups.

An authorised inspector under the Health & Safety at Work Act and a highly experienced Licensing Officer, John specialises in large scale public events with capacities up to 80,000; having managed events personally up to 50,000 capacity, he is experienced in all areas of event management, safety and regulation. He has been involved in some of the most prestigious events to be held in the UK, including the Olympic Torch Relay, Tour De France, Open Golf Tournament, Wireless Festival, Invictus Games and the Rugby World Cup.

John has been an IoL member for over 10 years and is currently on the Board of the Institute of Licensing’s South East Region.
