Draft Order permitting an extension of hours for Royal Wedding approved 3rd May 2018

The Draft Order regarding the proposed extension of licensing hours for the Royal Wedding has been approved by the House of Lords.

The Order is known as The Licensing Act 2003 (Royal Wedding Licensing Hours) Order 2018 and was laid before Parliament on 21 March 2018.
It was previously reported that the trading hours for the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises and the provision of late night refreshment were extended but the Minister’s statement to the House of Lords yesterday clarifies that regulated entertainment is also extended.

The Order extends the hours for the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises, provision of regulated entertainment and the provision of late night refreshment, where premises are already licensed to provide these activities. Late night refreshment is only extended to 1am where alcohol for consumption on the premises is permitted to 11pm, thereby not catching pure takeaways.

The extra hours permitted are:

• From 11pm on Friday 18th May 2018 until 1am on Saturday 19th May 2018; and
• From 11pm on Saturday 19th May 2018 until 1am on Sunday 20th May 2018.
