Southway Chicken House fined for breaching licensing rules Published Date: 17/04/2019

A local chicken shop owner has been fined and ordered to pay costs to Guildford Borough Council, after pleading guilty to trading outside his licensed hours.

Southway Chicken House pleaded guilty to one count of trading outside licensed hours on 24 September 2018. Following a report from a resident, CCTV footage was checked which showed the premises open and trading past its licensed hours when it should have been closed for the night.

The defendant was given a £100 fine and ordered to pay £1,000 in costs to the Council plus a £30 victim surcharge.

Mike Smith, Licensing Team Leader at Guildford Borough Council says: "This successful prosecution shows how seriously we take businesses which trade outside their licensed hours, causing unnecessary disruption to the lives of local residents. When evidence is found of premises breaking the licensing laws we will take action."
