Review of Local Restriction Tiers by Area Published Date: 30/12/2020

Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock MP, has announced further changes to local Covid restrictions in England.

Following the announcement on Wednesday, 30 December 2020, the following tier changes were announced:

Tier 3: Very High alert

The following places will be moving to Tier 3 from Thursday 31 December:

  • Rutland
  • Liverpool City Region
  • Bath and North East Somerset
  • Cornwall
  • Devon, Plymouth and Torbay
  • Areas covered by Dorset Council
  • Wiltshire
  • Herefordshire
  • Shropshire, and Telford and Wrekin
  • Worcestershire
  • City of York and North Yorkshire

Tier 4: Stay at Home

The following places will be moving to Tier 4 from Thursday 31 December:

  • Cumbria
  • Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole
  • Derby and Derbyshire
  • Leicester City and Leicestershire
  • Lincolnshire
  • Northamptonshire
  • Nottingham and Nottinghamshire
  • North East Combined Authority (this area includes the local authorities of County Durham, Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland)
  • North of Tyne Combined Authority (this area includes the local authorities of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, North Tyneside and Northumberland)
  • Tees Valley Combined Authority (this area includes the local authorities of Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Stockton-on-Tees)
  • Greater Manchester
  • Lancashire, Blackburn with Darwen, and Blackpool
  • Warrington and Cheshire
  • Isle of Wight
  • New Forest
  • Gloucestershire
  • Somerset
  • Swindon
  • Birmingham, Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton
  • Coventry
  • Solihull
  • Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent
  • Warwickshire
